Rahul Dravid - A Common Man

Rahul Dravid, the batsman and a common man who works hard, struggles for his runs, but he never gives up. Every time he steps on the ground, he battles with himself more than opponent. From last 15 years, it has been pleasure to watch him in action on the cricket field. He has that serious, studious student look which gives clear impression about him that he is learner of this game for life.

I still remember his debut ODI match against Sri Lanka in Singapore when he walked into bat with that typical white hat which is rare these days. He struggled against Muralitharan and then walked back into pavilion after scoring 4 runs. That first impression of him gave me enough to say about him and I thought he is almost another Manjerkar , but he made it bigger than Manjerkar. It has been a constant argument back home with father and brother where I always favored Dravid more than Tendulkar and my father and brother are staunch Tendulkar fans. It has always been hard to convince them about Dravid. Well it doesn't end there, it has been the same case friends too. If Tendulkar fans are stubborn, then probably I have learned to remain as strong as WALL in supporting Dravid.

The question has always been asked to me , but I have never given any satisfactory answer to anyone or neither I feel like to give.  Why am I so hard core Rahul Dravid fan? Probably here I will explain it better. Coming from a middle class family, I have always been taught to work hard and believe in simplicity of life. Probably that belief has led me to support Dravid strongly. On the other hand, Tendulkar is a genius, a rare breed. In this world, there are very few geniuses and Tendulkar is such a genius that it is hard for me to describe his talent. He has achieved everything in his life, that doesn't mean he hasn't worked hard or that also doesn't mean genius people don't work hard. Tendulkar might have worked harder than Dravid, but I feel he was bound to achieve what he has now.  Life is no easy for anyone and it hasn't been for Tendulkar even, but when you see Tendulkar , you just realize how genius he is. We are lucky to witness him in our generation. So I can only dream of like Tendulkar, but it is not the same case with Dravid. Dravid is immensely talented, but he is not genius like Tendulkar. When I see Dravid, I see myself, a common man. Dravid is a common man who works hard, struggles for his dreams, but eventually achieves them. Dravid gives me that belief  which I need to achieve greater things in life.  Dravid has struggled, fought with his conditions, has made improvements in his game, played for the team eventually. Despite achieving so much success, still that man is away from limelight and still a common man.

15 years ago he made his debut against England in a test match and missed a century on debut. After 15 years he has remained center of Indian batting line up in test matches. That beautiful cover drive or that perfect straight drive makes wonder on everyone's eyes and make you fall in love with this beautiful game of cricket.  His current inning of 112 against West Indies might not be fast paced, but he was never fast run scorer in test matches , but it has always a pleasure to watch his battle with opposing bowlers. He beats them first mentally and then physically. Technically he has remain as perfect as he can be, but the most important thing that he still considers himself student of this game and rates the game better than him. No game teaches you to be bigger than anything in life, it is you who have to keep the foot on ground.

YFormulator

Few weeks back I released my first android application YFormulator. YFormulator is a productivity application for phones with android OS. Initially it was named Formulator, but due to some legal issues, I had to change it to YFormulator. YFormulator was a simple idea for different formulas personal as well as conversion. The idea behind this simple application came to me when I was thinking of creating an application for Electrical Engineers, but eventually I thought to create this for general public.  Based on feedback, I will be releasing major update for this application. In this update, there will be some changes to UI and ads added to application .

Google TV

Recently Google announced its entry into TV market. I was kind of expecting this considering Google's money making model of advertisements. Probably with that announcement, we will be able to see the web on TV and even browse. I have always been a fan of Google products, but recent failures of  Buzz, Wave, I am getting a feeling that Google might be doing the same thing what Microsoft did a decade back. When we were introduced to computers in India, it was all about Microsoft products, starting from Windows, DOS, Office. Human psychology behind using graphical user interface than command line interface is always stronger. Somehow, most of us got trapped in using windows more often. Geeky linux guys kept themselves glued to linux for years and even now open source struggles to make its presence through linux.  Despite Google's efforts to support open source, non-profit organizations and its products in energy economy(powermeter) , it might just monopolize the world where friends might turn into foes. Concept of TV is so strong and since there is slow innovation in that area, I am sure even Luddite will appreciate Google TV. Finally it's all entertainment business.

4 Photos

Yeah, I know it's been a long I posted anything here. You can say I have committed one of seven sins (sloth, just for clarity). No excuse for that. So much hooked to twitter , that I was just procrastinating to post anything, here. I know even right now I don't have much to share. But in mean time, Moi, being inspiration for photography , I have created a photoblog here. It is just amateur work , so expert comments are welcome.

IITs and Rat Race

These are the established IITs : IIT Powai, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Chennai, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee, IT BHU, ISM Dhanbad. The entrance exam for these IITs makes them prestigious colleges in India. Equation has changed from 2008. New IITs have been started at following places: IIT Punjab, IIT Patna, IIT Rajasthan, IIT Bhubaneshwar, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Hyderabad. In 2009, IIT Himachal and IIT Indore will be started. Beside these there are extended colleges , IIST, IISERs, RGIPT, IIMS. The rat race will continue with increasing number, but who is going to monitor the quality of education, specially in IITs here after. Instead of investing money in new IITs and their infrastructure, isn't it wise to convert existing some top quality colleges in IITs? When will Government learn this simple thing? May be my perspective is one sided and with no complete justification, but on first look , it does make sense.

Bottomline is We need quality of education and not quantity of education.

Winner never quits

Yes, those are the words for Rahul Dravid. This person leaves no stone unturned to appreciate his personality in every aspect. From being the most humble, calm and a true performer, he shows the world what the class means. I owe a lot to Dravid in his today's innings against Rajasthan Royals. The man was criticized so many times and he has always proved he is a team man and always ready to prove his mettle on any given test. Gosh!!! I literally got horripilation when I saw his innings and the way he played today just provided a tight SLAP on Vijay Mallaya's face.

How do you feel when the world criticizes you and people around question your abilities and at the slightest chance you prove everyone what you are. Yes that is all about Rahul Dravid. He is the most genuine player who has proved again and again why cricket is called gentleman's game.

And he is the man who made me to write back on my blog. Hats off to Rahul Dravid.
